about miiko
Miiko Mentz is a social media marketer and seasoned public relations practitioner with extensive experience in social media marketing, tech public relations, blogger and influencer relations, content marketing and community management, as well as business development, client relations and account management.

She has developed, launched and managed numerous PR and social media marketing campaigns and programs over the years and continues to help clients build brand awareness, visibility and credibility among influencers and consumers alike. Her expertise is in social media marketing, content marketing, community management, and blogger and influencer relations.

Miiko is currently working with nutrition and lifestyle brands/companies. Her main client is The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, a unique luxury resort on the Las Vegas Strip, where she is the social media strategist. She is responsible for the strategic development and management of The Cosmopolitan's social channels, which were launched in June 2010 (six months before the resort opened).

Miiko had the unique opportunity to launch and build The Cosmopolitan's social media presence and team from the ground up. She says that being a part of the brand marketing team responsible for building a brand from scratch and opening the newest and hottest resort casino on the Las Vegas Strip was an opportunity of a lifetime and she is honored to have been a part of it.

Miiko has been instrumental in growing The Cosmopolitan's social media community from zero to more than 85,000+ followers on Twitter @Cosmopolitan_LV and more than 100,000+ fans on facebook.com/TheCosmopolitan.

In June of 2011, Inc. Magazine named The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas the "Most Socially Savvy Hotel" in its Business Travel 50 | The Best Hotels for Business Travel. The Cosmopolitan's social media marketing was also recognized by Mastermind's 2011 Sherpie Awards, which are awards given for "The Best Social Media Marketing in the Casino Industry." The Cosmopolitan won in two categories: Best Use of Twitter and Best in Show.

She previously worked at Katalyst, which Fast Company named as one of the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in the advertising and marketing space. Prior to Katalyst, Miiko was the senior director of New Media & Digital PR at FutureWorks, a Silicon Valley social media strategy and digital PR company, founded by Brian Solis. While at FutureWorks, she also produced videos and blogged at Bubblicious, a blog started by Brian Solis that covers the Social Economy.

She recently started BentoBox, a Tumblr blog, and a new Twitter account, @BentoBoxMedia, both focused on social media campaigns from her favorite brands and other brands doing cool and unique initiatives with a social twist.

And when she finds a little extra time, she blogs at pinkMOXIE, her personal lifestyle blog where she writes about everything from culture, society and career to health, beauty, music and other musings.

Over the years Miiko's PR and social media work has helped numerous companies to increase their brand awareness, visibility and credibility among industry influencers and consumers. Some of her favorites are The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (an original and unique luxury resort on the Las Vegas Strip); IFC.com (voices of independent culture – film, music and politics); Tapulous (makers of the wildly successful Tap Tap Revenge music game, acquired by Disney); Signal Patterns (health, wellness and psychology-based web and mobile apps, acquired by bLife); MindTouch (open source enterprise collaboration); WebSideStory (Web analytics, acquired by Omniture/Adobe); MonsterGecko (PC gaming); and Sony (VAIO notebooks).

Very early in her career she worked on numerous video and television productions, from satellite backhauls with Court TV and PBS' The News Hour with Jim Lehrer to interviews with Silicon Valley CEOs, startup founders and celebrities. Her favorite was an interview with Apple Computers Co-founder Steve Wozniak and his mother Margaret Wozniak back in the mid-1990s. Recently, she hasn't had the time to do her own videos, but you can check out her past videos at Bubblicious, BubTV or on her blip.tv and YouTube channels.

Prior to going into video, PR and social media marketing, Miiko performed in numerous productions from musical theater to dance concerts. She studied dance (ballet, contemporary/modern, jazz, and just enough tap and hip-hop to get by in auditions) from the time she was six years old on up into her 20s. Dance is still a passion of hers and you can find her from time to time catching a class for fun at some of her favorites dance studios. Other passions of hers inlude seeing live music (particularly the Indigo Girls), practicing yoga, reading and blogging about health & wellness, and riding her bike (a pink & brown beach cruiser).

Miiko holds a B.S. degree in public relations from San Jose State University, and an A.A. degree in television and video production from De Anza College.
